Virginia Coalition for Students with Disabilities
The Virginia Coalition for Students with Disabilities (VCSD) was formed in
1994 to address issues impacting students with disabilities and to promote educational
rights and opportunities for these students in Virginia.
MISSION
The mission of the Virginia Coalition for Students with Disabilities is to
promote educational rights and opportunities for students with disabilities.
GOALS
The goals of the Virginia Coalition for Students with Disabilities are as follows:
- Organize the annual "A Call To Action" event to discuss current
events and stimulate actions to improve educational opportunities for students
with disabilities.
- Meet to discuss activities that impact education such as monitoring of school
compliance, state level education standards, implementation of IDEA and State
Special Education Regulations, and legislation.
- Monitor activities of the legislature and Virginia Department of Education.
- Encourage advocates to work together to address education deficiencies in
Virginia.
MEETINGS
Special meetings of the VCSD may be called at any time by any five participants.
Meetings will be announced to all participants four weeks in advance whenever
possible.
COMMUNICATION
E-mail will be the primary mode of communication between meetings. Regular
mail and fax will be used only when e-mail is not available.
DECISION MAKING
Any document distributed as a position of the Coalition will be developed by
a group of individuals, circulated to the current participants for comment,
the final document will be determined by a group of people who self-identify
themselves as wanting to be involved in that process. The final document will
be distributed to all participants by e-mail in order to give them an opportunity
to sign on to the document. The document will then be circulated throughout
the community under the name of the Coalition with the signatures of those individuals
and organizations who proactively offered their support for the document.
